I am Khatira Daryabi. As a proud Bachelor's and Master of Management student at the Sauder School of Business at UBC, I am also the founder of Batour Organic Dried Fruits and an advocate for equal opportunities and freedom for Hazara Afghans. My homeland of Afghanistan is a country rich in culture and history, with hardworking people who deserve better development and representation. Unfortunately, under the Taliban's rule, millions of Afghans, including children and women, have suffered from starvation, homelessness, and a lack of financial and job opportunities. As a refugee from Afghanistan, I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to my second home, Canada, through my sustainable e-commerce company, Batour. Our mission is to provide healthy and affordable dried fruits while also being dedicated to using fully sustainable packaging to combat the effects of the climate crisis.

At Batour, we believe in empowering women and creating opportunities for those who have been denied their basic human rights under the Taliban regime. By sourcing organic sun-dried fruits and premium saffron from local Afghan farms, we not only provide employment and economic opportunities for farmers, but also ensure that these products are not wasted. Since the Taliban takeover, foreign imports have been cut off, leaving many farmers without a source of income and causing the quality of dried fruits to deteriorate. By offering affordable organic products and using sustainable packaging, we are not only providing a valuable service to our customers but also doing our part in the fight against climate change. In addition, we aim to hire individuals from refugee backgrounds in Canada to help them feel included and provide them with job opportunities in their new home.
